NEWARK, DE -- The No. 14 ranked
University of Delaware field hockey team fell to No. 1
Maryland Wednesday night, 3-1, at Rullo Stadium.
Izzy Palmer of Maryland opened the
scoring at the 29:23 mark of the first half, converting a
penalty corner to give the Terrapins a 1-0 lead heading to
halftime.
Maryland extended their lead to 2-0 on
the first of two goals by Colleen Barbieri a little more
than five minutes into the second half, but Delaware
sophomore Erica LaBar (New Castle, DE/William Penn)
scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season off a
penalty corner to cut the deficit to one. Seniors Kim
Wagaman (Oley, PA/Oley Valley Regional) and Kelly
Coyle (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) picked up
assists on the goal, which was only the third allowed by the
Terrapins this season.
Barbieri's second goal at the 54:47 mark
capped the scoring for the Terrapins, who improved their
record to 7-0 on the season.

Hearsey turned aside five Blue Hen shots.
