Blue Hens Suffer
First Loss in OT This Season

Temple on Wednesday.

NEWARK, DE -- Melissa DeCesaris
scored 3:15 into the first overtime to lift Temple to a 3-2
win over the No. 16 ranked Delaware field hockey team
Wednesday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.
After a penalty corner was issued to
Temple, Haley Dervinis inserted the ball to Morgan Faria,
who set the ball down for the shot by DeCesaris.
The Blue Hens (5-4) forced the overtime
session when sophomore Jesse Balmer (Telford,
PA/Christopher Dock) deflected a shot by fellow
sophomore Erica LaBar (New Castle, DE/William Penn)
at the 59:45 mark of the second half to tie the game at
2-2.
Temple opened the scoring at the 4:54
mark of the first half, when Morgan Faria scored the first
of her two goals off a pass from Susan Nase. Delaware
knotted the score just over a minute later when sophomore
Lauren Carr (West Chester, PA/Downington) scored her
second goal of the season.
Faria's second goal came at the 54:21
mark of the second half, which temporarily gave Temple (2-6)
a 2-1 lead.
Senior Stephanie Judefind (Wilmington,
DE/Concord) made seven saves for Delaware, while Mary
Zakrewski stopped nine shots for Temple..
Delaware returns to action this Sunday
when it travels to New Haven, CT to take on Dartmouth. Game
time is set for 1 p.m.
