Blue Hens Suffer First Loss in OT This Season

Leah Geib moves forward in Delaware's 3-2 overtime loss to Temple on Wednesday.

NEWARK, DE -- Melissa DeCesaris scored 3:15 into the first overtime to lift Temple to a 3-2 win over the No. 16 ranked Delaware field hockey team Wednesday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

After a penalty corner was issued to Temple, Haley Dervinis inserted the ball to Morgan Faria, who set the ball down for the shot by DeCesaris.

The Blue Hens (5-4) forced the overtime session when sophomore Jesse Balmer (Telford, PA/Christopher Dock) deflected a shot by fellow sophomore Erica LaBar (New Castle, DE/William Penn) at the 59:45 mark of the second half to tie the game at 2-2.

Temple opened the scoring at the 4:54 mark of the first half, when Morgan Faria scored the first of her two goals off a pass from Susan Nase. Delaware knotted the score just over a minute later when sophomore Lauren Carr (West Chester, PA/Downington) scored her second goal of the season.

Faria's second goal came at the 54:21 mark of the second half, which temporarily gave Temple (2-6) a 2-1 lead.

Senior Stephanie Judefind (Wilmington, DE/Concord) made seven saves for Delaware, while Mary Zakrewski stopped nine shots for Temple..

Delaware returns to action this Sunday when it travels to New Haven, CT to take on Dartmouth. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
