Villanova 1-0 in first game of Blue Hen

NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore forward Erica LaBar scored
an unassisted goal 20:45 into the first half to lead the
Delaware field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Villanova
University in the first game of the Blue Hen Classic Friday
night at Rullo Stadium.
The New Castle, DE native grabbed a loose ball, raced
toward the net and beat Wildcat goalkeeper Meghan Helwig for
what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Blue Hen goalkeeper Stephanie Judefind (Wilmington, DE)
made five saves to notch her second shutout of the season
and seventh of her career. Helwig had five saves in a losing
effort for Villanova.
The Blue Hen defense allowed only seven shots including
holding the Wildcats to only a pair in the second half.
Villanova did not get a shot off in the second half until
20:07.
The Blue Hens return to action Sunday afternoon when they
take on Richmond in the final game of the Blue Hen Classic
at 2 p.m. at Rullo Stadium. Meanwhile, Villanova will take
on Richmond tomorrow at 1 p.m at Rullo Stadium.
