PHILADELPHIA -- Junior
All-American Erica LaBar (William Penn/Newark, DE)
scored two first half goals to lead the 17th ranked
University of Delaware field hockey team to a 2-0 Colonial
Athletic Association victory over host Drexel Sunday night
at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin
Field.
LaBar, who upped her career goal total to
21 with her first career multiple-goal game, scored the only
two goals of the contest just 14 minutes apart in leading
the Blue Hens (12-6, 4-2 CAA) to their second straight
victory.
The victory clinched a spot for Delaware
in the four-team CAA Tournament to be held Nov. 8-9 at top
seed Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. The Hens have
now qualified for post-season action for the eighth straight
year under head coach Carol Miller.
Drexel lost its second straight game and
seventh in its last eight outings to fall to 5-12 overall,
0-6 CAA. Goalkeeper Katie Dougherty posted three saves in
taking the loss.
Delaware freshman goalkeeper Megan
Allen also posted three saves in collecting her fourth
shutout of the season. Delaware held a 9-6 advantage in
shots on goals, including five by Jessica Breault,
but Drexel held a 3-2 advantage in penalty
corners.
LaBar opened the scoring just 11 minutes
and 44 seconds into the contest when she took a feed from
Lauren Carr and scored for what proved to be the only
goal the Hens would needs. She followed with her second goal
unassisted with 9:16 to go before halftime.
The Blue Hens defeated the Dragons for
the 10th straight season and now lead the all-time series by
a wide 16-1 margin. Delaware will close out the regular
season Oct. 31 at home vs. Towson at 7 p.m. at Rullo
Stadium.
