Delaware Drops Third-Straight Decision

EASTON, PA -- Four different Lafayette players scored goals and goalkeeper Casey Devlin made four saves as Lafayette College doubled up the No. 15 University of Delaware field hockey team, 4-2, Wednesday night in Easton, PA.

Juniors Jessi Balmer and Erica LaBar scored for Delaware (10-5), who dropped its third-straight contest. Junior Leah Geib assisted on both Delaware goals.

Balmer opened the scoring at the 23:24 mark, converting a pass from Geib to give the Hens a 1-0 lead. The Leopards (9-6) exploded for three goals in 1:52 to take a 3-1 advantage, as Jennifer Stone, Emily Goldman and Meredith Hahn beat Blue Hen goalkeeper Megan Allen with shots to end the first half.

Delaware cut the deficit to 3-2 on LaBar's seventh goal of the season at 56:12, but Melissa Farrard put Lafayette ahead for good with a goal at 67:39.

The Blue Hens outshot the Leopards, 18-16, and held an 11-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Delaware returns to action this Sunday when it travels to College Park to take on the No. 4 Maryland Terrapins at 2 p.m.
