Blue Hens Pile Up Six Goals For First Time Since 1998

Senior Jessica Breault had a goal and an assist in the win.

NEWARK, DE -- Junior Jessi Balmer scored her eighth and ninth goals of the season and fellow junior Erica LaBar added three assists as the No. 12 University of Delaware field hockey team knocked off LaSalle, 6-3, Tuesday night at Rullo Stadium.

Senior tri-captain Jessica Breault added a goal and an assist for the Blue Hens (8-2), who won for the fifth-straight game and improved their record against the Explorers (6-3) to 20-0 all-time. The six goals is the most Delaware has scored in a game since netting eight in a 8-0 win against Lehigh back in 1998.

Freshman Katie Evans opened the scoring for Delaware at the 29:16 mark, as she took a behind-the-back pass from LaBar and blew a shot past LaSalle goalkeeper Colleen Bolger to give the Hens a 1-0 lead.

Breault made it 2-0 at 32:37, as she converted a crossing pass from junior Lauren Carr. Carr then gave Delaware a 3-0 lead when she knocked home a rebound from a sharp angle off a LaBar shot at 36:21. Senior Erin Shaklee upped the lead to 4-0 when she one-timed a pass from LaBar past Bolger at 41:46, and two goals from Balmer - one at 44:02 and another at 49:25 - gave Delaware a 6-0 lead.

LaSalle got late goals from Jill Moser at the 54:10 mark, Laura Farley at 64:21 and Katharine Prokop at 65:50.

With her three assists, Labar moved into sole possession of fifth place on UD's all-time assist list with 19.

Delaware returns to action on Friday when it begins conference play by hosting James Madison. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
