COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Anja Boettcher
scored two of the Terrapins four second-half goals as the
No. 4 University of Maryland field hockey team blanked the
No. 15 University of Delaware, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at the
Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
The Terps (14-2) handed Delaware its
fourth-straight loss and held the Blue Hens without a shot
for the first time since September 8, 2000. Ironically,
their opponent that afternoon was the Terps, who also ended
the Blue Hens streak of 58 consecutive games scoring at
least one goal.
The two teams battled to a scoreless draw
after 35 minutes of play before the Terps erupted for four
goals in the second stanza. Barbieri opened the scoring at
the 47:26 mark, as she tucked a shot around the outstretched
leg of Delaware goalkeeper Megan Allen, who made
eight saves in defeat. Boettcher scored the first of two
goals on the afternoon on a penalty corner at 56:04 to
extend the Maryland lead to 2-0. Ciconte's goal 37 seconds
later game it 3-0 and Boettcher made it 4-0 at
64:46.
The Blue Hens (10-6) return to action
Friday night when they travel to Hofstra to battle the Pride
in Colonial Athletic Association action. Game time is set
for 7 p.m.
