NORFOLK, VA -- No. 7 Old
Dominion's Rachel Daubert's scored on a breakaway up the
middle at 84:47 to down the No. 11 University of Delaware
field hockey team, 6-5, in overtime Sunday afternoon in
Norfolk.
Senior Jessica Breault scored
twice and added an assist for Delaware, while junior
Erica LaBar registered a goal and an assist. The five
goals allowed by Old Dominion is the most it has allowed in
a CAA matchup since joinng the conference in 1991, and its
the most goals Delaware has ever scored in a loss.
Delaware held a 5-4 advantage late in the
second half when ODU's Anna Rogers knotted the score at five
all off a pass from Angie Loy at 63:37 to send the game into
overtime. On the afternoon, Old Dominion converted three
penalty corners for goals.
The Blue Hens (10-4, 2-2 CAA) fell behind
2-0 early in the first half on goals by Beth Maddox and Loy,
but Breault and LaBar scored twice in a five minute span to
even the score. Rogers scored at 23:26 to give the Monarch's
(10-4, 5-0 CAA) a 3-2 lead before goals by Breault and
freshman Katie Evans gave the Hens a 4-3 lead. Maddox
scored for the Monarchs at 48:11 to even the score at four,
but junior Jessi Balmer scored her team-high ninth
goal of the year to give Delaware a 5-4 lead.
Freshman goalkeeper Megan Allen
made five saves for Delaware, while Tina Walker posted 11
saves in net for ODU.
Delaware returns to action this Wednesday
when it travels to Pennsylvania to take on Lafayette at 7
p.m.
