Harrington's Goal
Snaps Blue Hens Three-Game Winning
Streak
NEWARK, DE -- Freshman Audrey
Harrington scored eight minutes into overtime and Gina
Sadler made seven saves as University of the Pacific field
hockey team handed the University of Delaware a 2-1 defeat
in overtime Thursday night at Rullo Stadium.
The loss snaps the Blue Hens' (3-2)
three-game winning streak and marks the first time the
Tigers (2-2) have defeated Delaware. They entered the
contest 0-2 all-time against UD.
Harrington picked up a loose ball and
backhanded a shot past Delaware keeper Megan Allen,
who finished the night with four saves, including a
sprawling save on a Pacific two-on-none break with nine
minutes left in overtime.
Pacific's Vianney Campos opened the
scoring at the 24:07 mark, as she ripped a shot past Allen
from just inside the circle. The game remained that way
until freshman Katie Evans evened the score at one
when she backhanded a shot past Sadler with under four
minutes remaining in the second half.
The Blue Hens outshot the Tigers 12-8,
including a 7-2 margin in the second quarter. Delaware also
failed to convert on 11 penalty corners.
The Blue Hens return to action this
Sunday when they take on Ball State at 3 p.m. in the first
of two games at Northwestern in Evanston, IL. Delaware will
meet the Wildcats Monday at 2 p.m.
