Freshman Evans
Posts Four Points on Afternoon
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Freshman
Katie Evans (Newtown Square, PA) scored once and
added two assists as the University of Delaware field hockey
team downed the Penn Quakers, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at
Franklin Field.
Senior Jessica Breault (Southbury, CT)
and juniors Jessi Balmer (Telford, PA) and
Lauren Carr (West Chester, PA) scored goals for
Delaware, who won for the second straight game and improved
to 2-1 on the season.
Evans opened the scoring eight minutes
into the contest, scoring unassisted past Penn goalkeeper
Amanda Jacobs. The Blue Hens extended their lead to 2-0 when
Breault scored off a feed from Evans at 28:25 before Kristen
Gray cut the Quakers deficit to 2-1 with a goal at the 42:19
mark.
Balmer put the Hens back up by two goals
when she knocked one past Jacobs at the 50:23 mark, and Carr
added an insurance goal at the 60:37 mark, converting a pass
from junior All-American candidate Erica LaBar (New
Castle, DE).
Freshman goalkeeper Megan Allen
(Virginia Beach, VA) recorded two saves for the Blue
Hens in route to earning her second career victory before
giving way to junior Heidi Hibshman (Lititz, PA) two
seconds after Carr's tally. Jacobs stopped 10 Blue Hen
shots.
The Blue Hens return to action tomorrow
when they host the Villanova Wildcats at Rullo Stadium. Game
time is set for 1 p.m.
