LaBar, Breault Lead Blue Hens to First Win of 2003

NEWARK, DE -- Junior All-American candidate Erica LaBar (New Castle, DE) scored two goals and added two assists as the University of Delaware field hockey team picked up its first win of 2003, downing Rutgers Sunday afternoon, 5-0, at Rullo Stadium in the final game of the Blue Hen Classic.

Senior Jessica Breault (Southbury, CT) notched two assists for the Blue Hens (1-1), while sophomore Jen Adamek (Eagleville, PA) and freshman Stephanie Swain (Middletown, DE), Amanda Warrington (Lewes, DE) and Katie Evans (Newtown Square, PA) all registered their first career points.

Delaware opened the scoring just 2:27 into the game, as LaBar knocked home a loose ball for her first of two goals on the afternoon. Swain made it 2-0 at the 13:23 mark, banging home a shot into a wide open goal, and second half goals by LaBar, sophomore Leah Geib (Schwenksville, PA) and junior Lauren Carr (West Chester, PA) sealed the win.

The Blue Hens held a 19-1 shot advantage and received 11 penalty corners, compared to two for the Scarlet Knights (1-1).

The Blue Hens return to action this Saturday when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on the University of Penn Quakers. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
