Tribe Snaps Delaware's Seven-Game Winning Streak

WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- On the strength of unassisted goals by Kelly McQuade and Tiffany Reeves, No. 19-ranked William & Mary defeated No. 11-ranked Delaware, 2-1, in CAA field hockey action Friday night.

Erica LaBar
The loss snapped Delaware's seven-game winning streak. The winning streak was Delaware's longest since a nine-game winning streak in 1998. It was Delaware's fourth straight loss to the Tribe.

McQuade staked the Tribe (8-3, 3-1 CAA) to a 1-0 lead with 14:46 left in the first half when she scored her seventh goal of the season.

William & Mary took a 2-0 lead when Reeves scored her first goal of the season just into the second half.

Delaware cut the margin in half when freshman Katie Evans scored her sixth goal of the season off a feed from All-American Erica LaBar with 19:11 remaining in the game. It was the team-leading ninth assist of the season for LaBar, a New Castle, DE native, and the 20th of her career. She moved into a tie for fourth on the UD career assist list with Rachel Barger, who is currently a member of the U.S. National Team.

However, the Blue Hens (10-3, 2-1) could not get the equalizer as the Tribe's Stacey Gaenzle made four saves to pick up the win. William & Mary outshot Delaware, 13-9.

Delaware will stay on the road to face defending CAA champion and seventh-ranked Old Dominion on Sunday at 1 p.m.
