LANSING, MI -- Michigan State's Kathryn
Elenz-Martin scored the game's only goal
off a deflection with 3:57left to play as
the Spartans spoiled the season opener for
the University of Delaware field hockey
squad Saturday in the opening round of the
Michigan State Championship Tournament.
The Blue
Hens (0-1) will take on Louisville in the
tournament consolation game Sunday, Aug.
29 at 11:30 a.m. CST. Louisville lost to
Duke in the other first round game
Saturday. Michigan State and Duke will
square off in the title game at 2
p.m.
Blue Hen
sophomore goalkeeper Megan Allen
(Kempsville/Virginia Beach, VA) held the
Michigan State offense to just one goal
while posting eight saves. The Blue Hens
managed just three shots on goal for the
game with Erica LaBar collecting two and
Lauren Carr one.
Michigan
State's Christina Kirkaldy posted the
shutout for the Spartans.
