NEWARK, DE-- Whitney Shean scored two goals and notched one assist to lead No. 12 Northeastern University to a 5-1 win over the University of Delaware field hockey team Sunday afternoon at Fred P. Rullo Stadium.
Junior Katie Evans put the Blue Hens up 1-0 scoring an unassisted goal, her third of the season, 8:23 into the first half.
Shean scored off of an assist from Michaela O’Malley to tie the game 1-1 at 23:48 in the first half. Stephanie Casper put the Huskies up 2-1 at 27:08 off of a rebound from Delaware goalkeeper Megan Allen’s pads.
Sarah Eckhoff opened the scoring 11:18 into the second half on assists from Natalie Singelais and Shean on a penalty corner to put Northeastern up 3-1. Eckhoff answered again scoring an unassisted goal at the 57:47 mark in the second half. Shean topped off the scoring with an unassisted goal with 34 seconds remaining in the contest.
Delaware keeper Allen made 10 saves in the loss, while Northeastern keeper Colleen Duffy recorded three saves.
Northeastern holds a 13-4 all-time advantage over the Blue Hens.
The Blue Hens fall to 6-6 (1-2 CAA) on the season, while the Huskies improve their 10-game win streak to 11-1 overall (3-0 CAA).
Delaware returns to action on Friday, October 7 when the Blue Hens travel to CAA opponent William & Mary for a 7 p.m. game.
