No. 8 Old Dominion Defeats Delaware Field Hockey 6-2

NORFOLK, VA-- Denise Admiraal recorded a hat trick to lead No. 8 Old Dominion to a 6-2 win over the University of Delaware field hockey team in Colonial Athletic Association action Sunday afternoon at Foreman Field.

The Monarchs got on the board 1:44 into the contest when Admiraal took a pass from Anna Rogers to take a 1-0 lead. Delaware tied the game at 22:28 when Kaili Kao scored off of a pass from Amber Deimler. Old Dominion’s Dana Sensenig put her team up 2-1 off of an unassisted goal with 8:46 left in the first half.

The second half was dominated by the Monarchs, who outshot the Blue Hens 17-2 and held an 11-1 advantage in penalty corners. Admiraal gave Old Dominion a 3-1 lead 1:09 into the second half with the assist from Caroline Nichols and Admiraal topped off her hat trick 2:37 later with an unassisted goal that put the Monarchs up 4-1. Old Dominion took a 5-1 lead 5:23 in the second half when Jennifer Angat took a pass from Nicolien van Nispen. Sensenig scored her second goal of the contest 1:14 later, giving the Monarchs a 6-1 lead. The Blue Hens’ Katie Evans scored her fourth goal of the season 6:58 in the second half on a breakaway into the circle to cut the lead to 6-2.

Delaware keeper Megan Allen tied her career-high with 14 saves in the loss, while Old Dominion keeper Mary Cate Gordon made one save.

Old Dominion holds a 5-1-1 all-time advantage over the Blue Hens, who defeated eight-time CAA champions Old Dominion in the 2004 Championships.

The Blue Hens fall to 6-8 (1-4 CAA) on the season, while the Monarchs, who are on a seven game winning streak, improve to 10-4 overall (5-0 CAA).

Delaware returns to action on Sunday, October 16 when the Blue Hens travel to No. 2 Maryland for a 1 p.m. game.
