NEWARK, DE -- Junior All-American Amanda Warrington netted her first career hat trick and Katie Evans dished out three assists as the University of Delaware field hockey team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-1 non-league victory over Rutgers University Friday night at Rullo Stadium.

Warrington, the 2004 Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the NFHCA All-American squad, helped Delaware (4-2) snap a 1-1 tie with a goal with 20:12 left in the first half and added on two more goals to give the Blue Hens some insurance.

Rutgers, which got a first-half goal from Jocelyn Mattina, dropped to 3-2 on the season.

Warrington, a native of Lewes, DE (Cape Henlopen High School), now leads the Blue Hens with four goals on the season. She recorded her third career multiple goal game after scoring two goals each vs. Temple and Virginia Commonwealth a year ago. She is the first Delaware player to record a hat trick since Lauren Carr scored three times vs. Monmouth last Sept. 1, 2004.

The Hens, who have now scored 18 goals in their six games this season, defeated Rutgers for the sixth straight year.

Delaware got on the board early in the game as Molly Burke scored her third goal of the season off a penalty corner, taking feeds from Warrington and Evans to give the Hens the 1-0 lead just 1:13 into the contest.

But Rutgers came right back to knot the score at 1-1 as Mattina scored her first goal of the season off a rebound off a penalty corner just seven minutes and 17 seconds later.

It was all Delaware after that as Warrington gave the Hens the lead for good at 2-1 on a goal off an assist from Evans with 20:12 left in the opening half. The Hens went into halftime up 3-1 when Warrington scored her second goal off an assist from Burke with no time left. Warrington then capped the scoring with her third goal of the game off a feed from Evans just 3:05 into the second half for the 4-1 margin.
