COLLEGE PARK , MD -- The University of Delaware field hockey team fell to top-ranked University of Maryland Wednesday evening as Berber Rischen scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Terrapins past the Hens.
Maryland (7-0) scored just 11 minutes into the game as Nicole Muracco scored her fifth goal of the season when she tipped in a shot from Janneke van Leeuwen, who also assisted on the Terrapins second goal scored by Ameliet Rischen.
The Hens (2-4) were out-shot 34-2 as the only players to get shots off were senior Kaili Kao and freshman Elizabeth Lewis.
A bright spot for the Hens was junior goalie Nikki Rhoades (right) who stopped 12 of Maryland’s 15 shots on goal.
Delaware played without head coach Carol Miller, who was suspended for the game after receiving a red card in Sunday’s loss at Rutgers. Associate head coach Dawn Hill served as the Blue Hens’ head coach.
The Blue Hens will return to action Friday when they return home to take on Albany. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
at Rullo Stadium.
