BOSTON, MA -- The University of Delaware field hockey team was shutout for the second time this season, 5-0, Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens lost their first Colonial Athletic Association game of the year to Northeastern University.
Delaware (5-7, 2-1 CAA) fell behind 1-0 just 3:32 into the game as Suzanne Hazelzet scored her first of two goals on the day off a penalty corner.
Delaware goaltender Nikki Rhoades (right), starting for a still injured Megan Allen, played well early making many diving saves to keep the Hens in the game. However, Rhoades, who tied her career-high with 13 saves, could only do so much as the Huskies doubled their advantage to two goals after junior assistant captain Ashley Webber notched her second goal of the season by deflecting a shot by junior Stephanie Casper into the top corner of the net.
In the second half, the Hens were only able to muster one shot on goal as the Huskies continued to pour it on with three additional goals from Hazelzet, Whitney Shean, and Harriet Hoyer.
The Hens were outshot 28-3 for the game and Northeastern led in penalty corners 17-4.
Liz Centofanti earned her third victory of the season for the Huskies, after being called upon to make only one save. This is the second shutout victory of the season for Northeastern.
The Blue Hens will return to action Friday when they continue CAA play against William & Mary at Rullo Stadium at 7 p.m. Boxscore
