NEWARK, DE -- Junior goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades (right) recorded a career-high 14 saves but it was not enough as the University of Delaware field hockey team fell to No. 3 Old Dominion, 2-0, in Colonial Athletic Association play Sunday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.
Delaware (6-8, 3-2 CAA) could only get one shot on goal for the entire match as Old Dominion (13-1, 5-0 CAA) kept play on its end of the field for most of the game. After a scoreless first half, Darcy Pinchbeck got the Monarchs on the board with her fourth goal of the season 15:07 into the second half. Dana Sensenig followed just 7:24 later, tallying her team-high 12 goal of the season after deflectiong a shot from Caroline Nichols just in front of the net.
Old Dominion ran its win streak to 10 straight games and the Monarchs have now held their opponents scoreless for 480 consecutive minutes while recording six straight shutout victories. The Monarchs outshot the Hens 27-1 as Molly Burke posted the Hens only shot with eight minutes remaining in the second half.
The Hens were able to keep the game close due to stellar play from Rhoades, who made several stops in the first half to keep the Hens in the game. Kelly Driscoll was forced to make only one save in recording her eighth shutout of the season.
The Blue Hens will return to action October 20 when they travel to Towson for a 7 p.m. start time.
