NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware field hockey team dropped its first game of the Blue Hen Classic Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 15 ranked Ohio State, 2-1, in the rain at Rullo Stadium.
Ohio State (2-0) scored the game-winner when Yesenia Luces deflected a pass from Michaela O'Malley into the goal with 18:15 left to play.
Delaware (1-2) took the lead early when Katie Evans (right) scored her second goal of the season just three minutes and six seconds into the game. The Buckeyes tied the game in the second half when Emily Mikac scored an unassisted goal with 23:18 left to play.
Senior Megan Allen posted a game-high seven saves while Lindsay Quintiliani tallied one save for the Buckeyes.
In the second game of the day, Syracuse defeated the University of Pennsylvania, 1-0. Megan Stewart scored the game’s only goal for the Orange when she deflected a shot from Michelle Sola about eight yards in front of the goal with 10:11 remaining.
The Blue Hen Classic continues Sunday when Pennsylvania faces Ohio State at 11:30 a.m. and Delaware hosts Syracuse at 2:30 p.m.
