NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware field hockey team fell to Temple, 2-1, Friday evening at Rullo Stadium as sophomore Jessica Cortellino (right) scored the only goal for the Hens.

Delaware (3-6) fell behind 1-0 after Emily Ziegler scored off a pass from Alli Lokey 30:52 into the game. The Hens responded immediately as Cortellino punched in a rebound opportunity off a shot by Kaili Kao to tie the game at 1-1 just 1:15 later.

The rapid action continued as the Owls scored the game’s final goal just 1:10 later. Mandi Ruth scored from five feet out to tally her team-leading fifth goal of the year and give Temple the 2-1 lead that they held onto.

Goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades made one save for the Hens as Erin Hanshue recorded two saves for the Owls.

Temple improves its record to 7-3 and will next travel to Lafayette on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game.

The Blue Hens will also return to action Sunday when they begin Colonial Athletic Association play against Hofstra at Rullo Stadium at 1 p.m.
