VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- Casey Howard (at right), a captain on the University of Delaware field hockey team, earned first team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors, while Missy Woodie and Michelle Drummonds received All-Rookie accolades in a vote by the league’s head coaches, the CAA announced at its annual awards banquet held Friday night in Virginia Beach.
Howard (Camden, DE/Caesar Rodney), a preseason All-Conference selection this seasonand second team All-CAA honoree last year, finished the regular season as theconference’s leading scorer, notching 13 goals and 29 points.
During the year, Howard, a junior midfielder, recorded two game-winning goals. She posted the lone score in a 1-0 victory over Richmond, while she added the clincher in a 2 1 win against Towson. She also notched two goals in a game twice, posting two scores against both Bucknell and Virginia Commonwealth.
A former All-Rookie selection in 2004, Howard has now garnered All-Conference honors in each of her three seasons. Over that time, she has posted 29 goals, six assists, and 64 points.
Michelle Drummonds (Elkton, MD/Elkton), a freshman back on the Hens, finished the\ year as the third leading scorer on the team with 14 points and seven goals.
During the season, she recorded her first career goal against Rutgers, and then she added scores against Monmouth, Penn, Duke, and Drexel. She also posted the first multi-goal game of her career against Virginia Commonwealth, scoring two goals in the team’s 5-4 overtime victory.
Missy Woodie (Fredericksburg, VA/Chancellor) tied for second on the team with four assists this season. A back, she also was a key force on the Hen defense that surrendered two goals or less in 14 of the team’s 19 games.
Against Kent State in the Buckeye Classic, she recorded her first career point on an assist against the Golden Flashes. Later, she added another assist against Duke, while she had two in the team’s 4-2 victory over Bucknell.
Honored along with Howard, Drummonds, and Woodie were James Madison’s Kelsey Cutchins, who was selected as the 2007 CAA Player of the Year, and Northeastern’s Suzanne Hazelzet, who took home Defense Player of the Year honors. Old Dominion’s Loran Hatch was also named the conference’s Rookie of the Year, while the Lady Monarch’s Beth Anders earned Coach of the Year accolades.
