COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Former University of Delaware field hockey standout Katie Evans competed in her first international competition for the USA Field Hockey Women’s National Team last week.
Evans was a member of the USA developmental squad before being called up to the senior team prior to its five-game series against Olympic-bound Japan.
During the series, Evans made her debut in America’s 1-0 setback to Japan on October 12 before starting in the team’s 3-1 loss the following day in College Park, MD.
The USA squad used the series as preparation for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament which will be held in Kazan, Russia from April 19-27. America has not qualified for the Olympics since Atlanta hosted the Centennial Games in 1996.
In 2005, Evans was a member of the U.S. Junior National World Cup team whose seventh place finish was the team’s highest ever. She also participated in the USA Field Hockey Futures Program and earned a place on the 2005-06 USA Under-21 team.
A four-year standout at Delaware, Evans helped the Blue Hens win the 2004 Colonial Athletic Association title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
During her career, she appeared in 74 games with 68 starts. In those contests, she notched 51 points and 21 goals. Her 30 career assists also rank second all-time at Delaware.
In 2003 and 2005, Evans earned second team All-CAA and second team All-Mid Atlantic Region honors.
A native of Newtown Square, PA, she graduated from the University of Delaware last May after earning her degree in apparel design and fashion merchandising.
