RICHMOND, VA -- The University of Delaware field hockey team extended its winning streak to four games after topping Longwood, 3-1, in Richmond on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Tori Karsten (at right) led the Hens, recording a goal and an assist. Molly Burke and Casey Howard also chipped in with a goal apiece, while Jackie Tait and Amanda Warrington added assists.

Karsten opened the scoring at 13:19 in the first half. After Longwood tied the game, Burke scored her fourth goal of the season off of a penalty corner, and Howard slammed home the final goal of the game with nineteen minutes remaining in the second half.

For Howard, it was her third consecutive game with a goal, marking the first time in her career that she scored a goal in three straight contests. The last Hen to accomplish the feat was Katie Evans, who scored against Ohio State, Syracuse, and Rutgers in succession last season.

Goalie Nikkie Rhoades continued her strong season, allowing just one goal in her 55 minutes of action. For the year, she has allowed just two goals in her first four games, which includes shutouts against Ohio State and Richmond.

As a team, the Hens have allowed just three goals this season, marking the fewest scores surrendered since the 1994 team allowed one in its first four matches.

With the win, the Blue Hens improve to 4-0 for the first time since 1997. It is their ninth 4-0 start in program history, dating back to 1971.

The Blue Hens return to action on Friday at 7 p.m. when they face Rutgers in their home opener at Rullo Stadium.
