GLEN ALLEN, VA -- Six members of the University of Delaware field hockey team were named to the ZAG/NFHCA National Academic All-American squad as selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Molly Burke (at right), Tori Karsten, Stephanie Loizeaux, Kacie Campbell, Florence Sijbrandij, and Jackie Tait all earned the honor for the Hens.
The ZAG/NFHCA All-American team is annually comprised of those student-athletes who achieved a minimum cumulative 3.30 grade point average through the first semester of the current academic year.
The All-American award is the second academic honor of the year for all six players. Each member of the NFHCA squad also was selected to the Colonial Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll.
Burke (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug), a senior forward on the team, earned the honor for the second straight season. A human services major at Delaware, she capped off her standout career with five goals and two assists in 2007. She finished fourth on the team in goals and tied for fourth with 12 points. A first-team preseason All-Conference selection, she also earned the team's 2007 Sportsmanship Award.
Karsten (River Forest, IL/Oak Park River Forest), a sophomore forward, also received the recognition for the second time in her career. A business major, she finished second on the team with eight goals and 19 points. She also led the team with four game-winning goals.
Loizeaux (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional), a redshirt freshman goalie for Delaware, joined Burke and Karsten on the list for the second consecutive season. A finance major, she saw the first action of her career against Monmouth on September 12, allowing only a single goal in over 16 minutes of action.
Campbell (Hershey, PA/Hershey), who played in 12 games last season, served as a back and midfielder during her freshman campaign. A biological sciences major, she also made one start and played a key role on a Delaware defense that surrendered two goals or less in 14 of the team's 19 games.
Sijbrandij (Arnhem, Netherlands/Stedelijk Gymnasium), a freshman back, also made an important impact on the defensive side of the ball. An undeclared major, she played in 16 games with 14 starts.
Tait (Fredericksburg, VA/Owen J. Roberts), a freshman who played at midfield and back during her first collegiate campaign, started 17 games for the Hens. An exercise science major, she led the Hens with five assists during the year.
Under 15-year head coach Carol Miller, the Blue Hens went 10-9 and finished tied for fifth in the CAA.
