BOSTON, MA -- Tori Kasten scored her seventh goal of the season, but the No. 18 ranked University of Delaware field hockey team fell to Northeastern, 2-1, during a Colonial Athletic Association bout at Sweeney Field.

With the Hens trailing 1-0 in the 53rd minute of action, Karsten (at right) knotted the score at one. Liz Centofanti, Northeastern’s goalie, stopped an initial shot by Casey Howard, but Karsten handled the rebound and found the back of the cage.

Four minutes after Delaware (9-4, 2-3 CAA) tied the game, the Huskies came storming back. In the 57th minute, Emma Boggio took a pass from Ashley Webber and drilled the game-winner past Hens’ goalie Nikki Rhoades.

The loss was the Hens’ second straight defeat after they fell to No. 13 Old Dominion, 1-0, on Sunday. It was also Delaware’s third straight loss to Northeastern dating back to 2003. The Huskies hold a 13-4 advantage in the all-time series.

During the match, both teams posted shutouts in the first half. Northeastern allowed just four shots before halftime, while Centofanti recorded three saves. The Hen defense was nearly as impressive, surrendering just five shots during the first 35 minutes of action.

Following halftime, Northeastern (5-7, 1-2 CAA) opened the scoring in the 43rd minute. Stephanie Casper found Suzanne Hazelzet in front of the net for the Huskies’ first goal of the game.

After Northeastern got on the board, Delaware unleashed a barrage of shots but only Karsten found the net.

In the contest, the Hens outshot the Huskies, 11-9, but Northeastern held a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners.

The Blue Hens return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they host the University of Pennsylvania Quakers at Rullo Stadium.
