RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware field hockey players Molly Burke, Casey Howard, and Amanda Warrington all received first team Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association Conference honors in a vote by the league’s head coaches.

Senior Molly Burke (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug), the CAA’s reigning Player of the Week after scoring three goals in the Hens’ two wins during the Buckeye Classic, scored seven goals and tallied two assists in thirteen games last season. During 2006, she also scored game-winning goals against No. 13 Michigan State and No. 19 Hofstra.

A starter in 54 of her 55 career games, Burke has posted 13 goals and nine assists during her career.

Casey Howard (Camden, DE/Caesar Rodney), who was named the UD Alumni Association Team MVP last season, led the Hens with nine goals and tied for the team lead in points with 19 during her sophomore campaign. She also notched her first career hat trick and added an assist in a 5-2 win against LaSalle on Oct. 29.

Voted a team co-captain in 2007, Howard (at right) has tallied 16 goals and three assists during her career.

Fellow co-captain Amanda Warrington (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) started just four games in 2006 before suffering a season-ending injury. In her second game back against Kent State in 2007, she tied a career-high with two assists.

A 2004 STX/NFHCA All-American selection, Warrington has notched 17 goals and 14 assists during her career.

Delaware, who captured the Buckeye Classic championship last weekend after defeating Kent State and No. 13 Ohio State, received more Preseason All-Conference selections than any other school in the league.

Along with Burke, Howard, and Warrington, the CAA Preseason All-Conference team included Old Dominion’s Jo Ann van Aswegen, who was named the Preseason Player of the Year, as well as fellow Monarch Sami McLenegan. Rounding out the team were Hofstra’s Pemba Ramdoo and Charlia Warner, James Madison’s Meghan Bain and Kelsey Cutchins, Northeastern’s Ashley Webber, Towson’s Christina Boarman, and William & Mary’s Kim Hedley.

The Blue Hens return to action on Saturday at 12 noon when they travel to Virginia to take on the Richmond Spiders.
