NEWARK, DE -- Amy Brewer's two goals helped lift the No. 18 ranked University of Delaware field hockey to a 4-2 win over William & Mary during a Colonial Athletic Association bout on Friday night at Rullo Stadium.

Brewer (at right) scored the team's first and last goal of the game, while Casey Howard and Tori Karsten added one score each.

The Hens (9-2, 2-1 CAA) have now won more games this season than they had during either of the previous two years. Delaware last reached nine wins in 2004 when the squad won 15 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

During the game, Brewer opened the scoring in the seventh minute after corralling a rebound and slamming it past Gwen Hunter, the Tribe’s goalie. Following halftime, Howard extended the lead to two after recording her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

After Tori Karsten posted her sixth goal of the season, William & Mary’s Katie Broaddus put the Tribe on the board in the 58th minute.

Brewer answered the Tribe’s first goal after scoring off of a pass from Alexis Esbitt. Less than two minutes later, Broaddus notched her second goal of the game to pull William & Mary (6-4, 1-1 CAA) within two.

Following the Tribe’s second goal, Delaware substituted goalies, bringing in senior Megan Allen. She proceeded to shut down the William & Mary attack for the final five minutes of the game.

In the match, the Hens outshot the Tribe, 11-7, while William & Mary held a slight 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.

The Blue Hens return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host No. 8 Old Dominion at Rullo Stadium.
