VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Sophomore back Missy Woodie was named to the second-team All-Colonial Athletic Association squad, while Kayla Schweitzer was selected to the All-Rookie team in a vote by the league head coaches, the CAA announced at its annual awards banquet held on Friday night.
With the two selections, Delaware has now had at least one player honored on the All-Conference team and another on the All-Rookie squad since 2004.
Woodie (Fredericksburg, Va. / Chancellor - top right) posted four points on the season, scoring a goal against Towson while adding assists against William & Mary and Old Dominion. In the team’s 3-2 victory over the Tribe, Woodie also was credited with the game-winning goal after converting the clinching penalty stroke during the shootout.
With her honor, she is one of only three players in the CAA to earn All-Conference honors this season after making the All-Rookie team last year. In 2007, she was named one of the league’s top freshmen after leading a stingy defensive unit while also finishing second on the team with four assists.
Schweitzer (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central - bottom right) was one of only two backs to earn All-Rookie honors after helping anchor Delaware’s strong defense. During the season, she was one of five players to start all 18 games for the Blue Hens, while she was the only freshman to appear in every contest.
Led by her strong performance on defense, Delaware allowed two goals or less in 11 of the team’s 18 games. Schweitzer also topped all freshmen with six shots during the season, including three on goal.
In addition to the two Blue Hens, the conference honored James Madison’s Kelsey Cutchings as the Player of the Year for the second straight season. Fellow teammate Melissa Walls was named the Defensive Player of the Year, while the Dukes’ Antoinette Lucas earned the Coach of the Year award. Northeastern’s Kaela Barker rounded out the individual award-winners, taking home top rookie accolades.
