LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Delaware field hockey team fell to a Top 20 ranked opponent for the second straight day Sunday as the Blue Hens dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 12 Duke in the consolation game of Champions Challenge hosted by the University of Louisville.

Delaware (0-2), which fell to No. 10 Michigan State its first round game Saturday, could not manage a shot against the Blue Devils. Duke, a perennial national power, outshot the Hens 17-0 and held an 11-0 advantage on penalty corners. The Blue Devils (1-1) were defeated by No. 17 Louisville 1-0 in their first round game Saturday.

Senior goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades (at right) led the Blue Hens with 10 saves on the day, posting double figures in saves for the fourth time in her career and for the first time since the 2006 season. Samantha Nelson earned the shutout win in goal for Duke.

Duke’s Amie Survilla provided the game’s only offense as she scored both Blue Devil goals, hitting the back of the cage with an unassisted goal just 12 seconds into the contest and taking a feed from Rhian Jones off a penalty corner and scoring past Rhoades with only 38 seconds left in the first half.

The Blue Hens will return to action Sept. 6-7 when they host the annual Blue Hen Classic at Rollo Stadium. Delaware will take on Ohio State Saturday at 11:30 a.m. followed by Temple taking on Boston University at 2 p.m. On Sunday, Boston University and Ohio State square off at 11:30 a.m. followed by the 2 p.m. game between the Blue Hens and Boston University.
