University of Delaware Field Hockey Announces Signing of Four High School Standouts to NCAA National Letters of Intent

Field Hockey YoUDeeNEWARK, DE -- Four high school standouts, including three from the state of Pennsylvania and two high school teammates, have signed NCAA National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Delaware on a field hockey scholarship and compete for the Blue Hens this fall, UD head coach Carol Miller announced Tuesday.

The Class of 2008 includes goalkeeper Noelle Diana from Flanders, NJ (Mount Olive High School), defender Nicole Ebersole from Manheim, PA (Manheim Central High School), forward Carley Hecht from New Britain, PA (Central Bucks South High School), and midfielder Kayla Schweitzer from Manheim, PA (Manheim Central High School).

Diana, the daughter of Angelo and Mary Ellen Diana, was a four-year standout as a goalkeeper at Mount Olive High School and was her team’s Most Valuable Player each of the past two seasons. As a senior in 2007, she was named to the New Jersey Field Hockey Coaches Association All-State first team, was named to the Daily Record All-Area first team, and was a first team All-Iron Hills Conference selection. She also served as president of the Mt. Olive High School National Honor Society.

Ebersole, the daughter of Keith and Robin Ebersole, earned first team All-Lancaster-Lebanon League honors this past fall and was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year. She earned distinguished honor roll laurels all four years in high school and earned the Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Academic Award.

Hecht, the daughter of Michael and Cheryl Hecht, earned second team All-State honors in Pennsylvania this past fall when she also was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year. She also served as captain of the Central Bucks South squad.

Schweitzer, the daughter of Bill and Joann Schweitzer, enjoyed an outstanding career at Manheim Central High School, earning first team All-State honors as a senior in 2007 after earning second team All-State accolades as a junior in 2006. She was also a two-year member of the Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star team.

She served as team captain in 2007 when she also was named team Most Valuable Player. She also was selected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association HIgh School National Academic squad this past fall.

Delaware posted a record of 10-9 this past fall and placed tied for fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a record of 3-5. Miller, who will begin her 16th season at the helm of the Blue Hens in 2008, has led her teams to 10 or more wins five of the last seven seasons, including a league title and NCAA Tournament berth in 2004.
