HAMILTON, Bermuda - Former University of Delaware field hockey standout Katie Evans helped lead the United States national team to a second-place finish at the recent 2009 Women's Pan Am Cup in Bermuda.

Evans, who made her debut on the national team in 2007, helped the squad win its first four competitions at the tournament before falling in the championship bout to Argentina. With the second-place showing, the USA is guaranteed to receive an invitation to one of three World Cup Qualifying Tournaments next year.

During the round-robin portion of the tournament, USA out-scored its opponents, 18-0. After advancing to the semifinals, the national team continued its torrid play, posting a 7-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago, which included a goal by Evans.

The national team then lost in penalty strokes to Argentina, the defending Pan Am champions and bronze medalist during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

A striker on the team, Evans was a member of the 2005-06 USA Under-21 team and later earned a spot on the USA Developmental squad. On October 21, 2007, she made her national team debut against Japan.

A four-year standout at Delaware, Evans helped the Blue Hens win the 2004 Colonial Athletic Association title and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. During the run to the championship, Evans led the squad with 12 assists, marking the third-highest single-season total in program history.

During her career, she appeared in 74 games with 68 starts. She still ranks second all-time with 30 career assists, while she is one of only two players to record a pair of three-assist games in a Blue Hen uniform. A two-time All-CAA and All-Region selection, she also added 21 goals and scored 51 points during her stint in Newark.

A native of Newtown Square, Pa., Evans is one of three former CAA athletes on the national field hockey team. She is joined by Caroline Nichols and Tiffany Snow, who both played collegiately at Old Dominion.
