ORLANDO, Fla. – University of Delaware field hockey standout Rae Everson has been selected to participate in the prestigious internship program at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex beginning in January.
The internship program, which was established in 1996, provides an all-inclusive environment for students to learn the intricacies of operating a sports complex. The program is designed to supplement classroom studies with a variety of practical learning experiences.
Everson will complete an athletic training internship at Disney during the spring. An ATEP major, Everson will graduate from Delaware in January.
During her stay in Newark, Everson has been an outstanding member of the field hockey team. This past season, she helped lead the Blue Hens to an incredible resurgence that resulted in the team’s first NCAA Tournament berth since 2004. Along the way, the fifth-year senior helped UD capture the Colonial Athletic Association championship and finish with a 14-6 record.
A starting back during each of the team’s 20 games, she finished the season with 15 points after scoring four goals and dishing out seven assists. Her defensive work also helped the squad post four shutouts, including a 1-0 victory in the CAA championship bout against Drexel. Her efforts during the postseason eventually helped her earn a spot on the CAA All-Tournament team.
In 73 career games at Delaware, Everson posted 30 points. During that time, she scored five times and added 10 assists. Equally as successful in the classroom and the community, she also was a perennial member of the CAA Academic Honor Roll and has served as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
A native of Felton, Delaware, she was an All-State performer at Caesar Rodney High School where she led the Riders to the 2004 state championship.
