RICHMOND, Va. -- Former University of Delaware field hockey standout Leah Geib, who made her mark as a Blue Hen not only as a talented defender and scorer but as a standout in the classroom, was honored by the Colonial Athletic Association Thursday with a spot on the CAA Silver Anniversary Field Hockey team.
As part of its 25th Anniversary celebration in 2009-10, the CAA is recognizing Silver Anniversary teams in 21 championship sports. The teams are selected by a panel of current and former head coaches in the conference.
The field hockey squad includes 24 All-Americans, 11 CAA Players of the Year, eight Olympians and five Honda Award winners. Four-time national champion and 13-time CAA champion Old Dominion dominated the team by placing 20 former players on the squad.
Geib (at right), forward and back from Schwenksville, Pa. (Souderton High School), enjoyed an outstanding career under current head coach Carol Miller, starring for the Hens in 2001-04 and leading the squad to the CAA title and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2004.
A four-year letterwinner, Geib earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American and College Sports Information Directors of American Academic All-American laurels in 2004 when he started all 22 games and recorded seven goals and seven assists. She also was named the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year twice and played in the NFHCA North-South Senior All-Star Game in 2004.
She appeared in 84 career games (all starts) to set a UD record and tallied 24 goals and 20 assists for 58 points while tallying nine game-winning goals. Her 24 career assists rank No. 6 all-time at Delaware.
Geib was a two-time NFHCA All-Region selection as well as earning All-CAA honors in 2003 and 2004. As a senior, she was one of 10 finalists for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award for outstanding performance on the field, in the classroom, and in the community and earned an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship as a communications major.
Members of the CAA Silver Anniversary team for field hockey are: Danielle Chellew (Old Dominion), Kelsey Cutchins (James Madison), Anna Davis (William & Mary), Kim Decker (Old Dominion), Marina DiGiacomo (Old Dominion), Janelle Engle (Old Dominion), Kathy Fosina (Old Dominion), Leah Geib (Delaware), Maaike Hilbrand (Old Dominion), Kelli James (Old Dominion), Laura Knorr (Old Dominion), Melissa Leonetti (Old Dominion), Angie Loy (Old Dominion), Kim Miller (Old Dominion), Pam Neiss (Old Dominion), Caroline Nichols (Old Dominion), Jill Reeve (Old Dominion), Samantha Salvia (Old Dominion), Dana Sensenig (Old Dominion), Mimi Smith (Old Dominion), Robin Smith (Old Dominion), Tiffany Snow (Old Dominion), Carole Thate (James Madison), Baillie Versfeld (James Madison) and Adrienne Yoder (Old Dominion).

ODU, under legendary coach Beth Anders, has earned 13 CAA championships and has reached the NCAA Tournament in 17 of their 18 seasons as a league member.
