OAKS, Pa. – Former University of Delaware standout Erin Marihugh has been selected to the USA National Indoor field hockey team that will represent the United States at the 2010 Pan Am Cup.
Marihugh will join the team for training and practice throughout the spring and summer before the team embarks on a European tour in the winter in preparation for the Pan Am Cup.
During her stint in Newark, Marihugh appeared in 25 games with 19 starts. A former standout at William Penn High School, she eventually capped her collegiate career with one goal and two assists as a midfielder.
“Erin is an extremely talented and committed indoor player,” said Delaware head coach Carol Miller. “I know she will assist the US team with her play-making abilities in their attempt to acquire the gold next year.”
The national team will look to improve upon its second-place showing at the 2008 Pan Am Cup and qualify for the 2011 Indoor World Cup in Poznan, Poland.
“The silver medal at the 2008 Indoor Pan Am Cup was just a start to USA indoor hockey,” said Team USA head coach Shawn Hindy. “We are confident that these women can and will win the Gold Medal in March 2010 and earn a berth to the Indoor World Cup.”
Marihugh joins a long list of Blue Hens to serve on U.S. National Teams. Along with Katie Evans, who competed for the US at the recent Pan Am Games, Anne Brooking, Michele Reilly, Sharon Wilkie, Carol Miller, Missy Meharg, Anne Wilkinson, Michelle Finnegan, and Leah Geib have all competed on the national stage as well.
