RICHMOND, Va. – Former University of Delaware field hockey standout Missy Meharg will be inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame during its annual ceremony on Saturday, January 9 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

Meharg, who recently wrapped up her 22nd year at the helm of the Maryland field hockey program, was a three-year letterwinner at Delaware from 1982-84. During that time, she earned All-East Coast Conference honors during each season and was selected to the second-team CFHCA All-American team following the 1983 campaign.

During her tenure in Newark, she posted 42 goals and 14 assists. She led the team with 16 goals and 33 points as a sophomore before tallying 17 goals and 43 points as a junior. In each of her final two seasons, she was honored as the Most Valuable Player in the ECC.

As a sophomore, Meharg helped guide the Blue Hens to a third-place showing during the 1982 NCAA Tournament. She also led the squad to a top-two finish in the ECC in each of her final three seasons, highlighted by a championship in 1982.

Overall, Meharg still ranks seventh all-time at Delaware with 98 career points and 42 goals. Her 43 points during the 1983 campaign are also the third-most in a single season in program history, while her 17 goals that year are tied for the fifth-most all-time.

After leaving Delaware, Meharg competed for the U.S. National Field Hockey Team from 1985-91. During that time, she served on the 1986 World Cup squad and was an alternate on the 1988 Olympic team.

During her tenure at Maryland, Meharg has established herself as one of the finest coaches in field hockey history. A seven-time NFHCA Division I Coach of the Year, she has guided the Terrapins to a 390-101-9 record. She has also led the program to five NCAA Championships and seven Atlantic Coast Conference titles.

Meharg will enter the Hall of Fame alongside Wake Forest's Jennifer Averill and William Smith's Sally Scatton. Together, the three coaches will make up the Hall of Fame's 10th induction class.
