RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware junior back Missy Woodie earned a spot on the Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association field hockey team as selected in a vote by the league head coaches.
Woodie earned the honor after piecing together a successful sophomore season that saw her earn second-team All-CAA accolades. During the 2008 campaign, she played great defense and chipped in with four points on the offensive side. Overall, she scored one goal and added two assists.
She started all 18 games for the Blue Hens, including an excellent showing against William & Mary. In the team’s 3-2 victory over the Tribe, she set up Delaware’s final goal in regulation to send the game into extra sessions. After two scoreless overtime periods, she capped the victory in the shootout by converting the final penalty stroke.
During her two years in Newark, she has appeared in all 37 games with 36 starts. In those contests, she’s recorded eight career points after tallying one goal and six assists.
Along with Woodie, the CAA also honored 12 other players with spots on the preseason team. James Madison’s Kelsey Cutchins led the way, earning Preseason Player of the Year honors. The Dukes also placed Meghan Bain and Dolores de Rooij on the team, while Drexel also had three honored with Susan Ciufo, Carolina Gibernau, and Kim Tunell earning the honor.
Northeastern’s Pam Aldridge and Kaela Barker were also selected to the squad, while Old Dominion’s Kathleen Shea, Towson’s Christina Boarman, William & Mary’s Wesley Drew, and VCU’s Marle van Dessel rounded out the roster.
The Blue Hens will open the season on Saturday when the squad takes on No. 8 Michigan State at the Duke Tournament.
