NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware sophomore Kayla Schweitzer scored her first career goal and assisted on another to lead the Blue Hen field hockey squad to its fourth straight win with a 3-0 shutout victory over Temple Friday night at Rullo Stadium.

The Hens (4-2) won their fourth straight game and have already surpassed last year’s win total for the entire season. Temple (3-4), which had few scoring opportunities throughout the game, had a two-game win streak snapped.

Schweitzer (at right), a midfielder form Manheim, Pa. (Manheim Central High School), assisted on the Hens’ first goal of the game just 2:09 into the contest and closed out the scoring with her goal with 28:06 left to play to lift Delaware to a win over the Owls for the second straight season.

The Hens opened the scoring just two minutes in and never looked back. Missy Woodie scored her first goal of the season off the Schweitzer assist in front of the goal at the 2:06 mark and UD never looked back.

Delaware made it 2-0 just 14 seconds into the second half as Amanda McCardell scored her fifth goal of the season off a rebound in front of Temple goalkeeper Sarah Dalrympie (four saves). Schweitzer’s tally just under seven minutes later capped the night’s scoring.

Delaware outshot Temple 9-8 but the Owls owned an 8-5 margin in penalty corners but could never convert. Delaware goalkeeper Noelle Diana posted two saves on the night to post her first shutout of the season the team’s first in 38 games since blanking Rutgers 4-0 back on Sept. 7, 2007.

The Blue Hens have scored 23 goals on the season, an average of nearly four per game. Delaware has now scored two or more goals in all five games this season, the longest multiple-goal streak for the Hens since a five-game streak during the last four games of the 2005 season and the first game of the 2006 campaign.

Delaware will return to action Sunday when the Hens host the University of California at 1 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.
