In 2004
the Hens are ranked third in the Colonial
Athletic Conference after receiving two
first place votes in the coaches poll.
Last season they finished the CAA
tournament in second place after posting a
season record of 14-7, 6-3 in the CAA.
This year they return over three-quarters
of last years starting squad and most
importantly three out of four All Region
selections.
This
season the Blue Hens will return 12 of
last years 15 letterwinners. They will
also be returning nine of last year's 11
starters. Erica LaBar, Jessi Balmer, and
Leah Geib are just a few of these
returning players who will be leading the
team as captains this season. LaBar is a
two time STX/NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic pick
as well as a first and third team
All-American. Geib was a second team
STX/NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic pick in 2002 as
well as a second team All-CAA selection.
Balmer is a two-time STX/NFHCA
All-Mid-Atlantic pick as well as a third
team All-American in 2003. Together they
combined for 71 points and 25 goals last
season.
Also
returning is starting goalkeeper Megan
Allen. In 2003, she allowed a mere 38
goals in the net for the Hens. Allen
posted 1.84 goals against average and was
named CAA Rookie of the Week on three
separate occasions. Head coach Carol
Miller is also looking for Amber Deimler,
