The No. 7 ranked University of Delaware (11-2) field hockey team had its nine game winning come to an end today (Sunday) falling to No. 12 ranked Duke University (7-5) 2-1 in overtime. Delaware got on the board first scoring off a penatly corner. Juli Byrd (Pocomoke Md., HS) scored the goal with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. The goal was assisted by Kelly Cawley (Oley Pa., HS) and Sara Hills (Alexanderia,Va./St. Stephen's HS). Delaware held the lead until ten minutes to go when Corey Ceccolini scored off a penalty corner for Duke with assists from Emily Ford and Courtney Sommer. The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. Delaware held the ball in Duke's end of the field for most of the overtime. Duke scored when Emily Ford broke behind the Delaware defense to end the game with 6:03 remaining in the first overtime period. Delaware returns to action when they travel to No. 4 ranked Princeton University on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
