Hilary McHugh scored two goals as Northeastern advanced
to its ninth straight America East Championship game with a
2-1 semifinal victory over the University of Delaware at
Hofstra Stadium.
The 15th ranked Blue Hens (15-6), who had fell to No. 11
Northeastern 2-0 a week earlier, completed one of the best
season in school history with their third straight league
semifinal appearance. Northeastern improved to 14-6).
McHugh opened the scoring at 23:54 of the first half on a
penalty corner from Heidi Benson and Holly Holmberg. The
same combination struck again at 27:05 of the second
half.
Delaware cut the deficit to 2-1 at 32:25 of the second
half when Jodi Byrd scored on a penalty stroke.
Kelly Adams had six saves for the Blue Hens while
Kathleen Madaus stopped two shots for the Huskies.
