The No. 11 ranked University of Delaware field hockey defeated the University of New Hampshire today (Sunday) at Rullo Stadium 3-2. The Blue Hens improved to 15-3 on the season and 6-0 in America East play. The University of New Hampshire fell to 10-6 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. Delaware has scored in all 18 games this season breaking the old school record of scoring in 17 consective games during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. Delaware opened the scoring just four and half minutes into the game on a goal scored by Rachel Barger (Springfield, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS) unassisted. Delaware continued to control play through the first half and scored again when Kelly Cawley (Oley, Pa./HS) put one past the New Hampshire goalkeeper. The goal by Kelly Cawley gave her 124 points for her career. The total broke the Delaware career points record held by Sharon Wilkie, who played from 1978 to 1981. Wilkie scored 123 during her career. New Hampshire came out of halftime strong scoring twice within the first five minutes. Karen Stone scored two and half minutes into the half off a Caroline Coyne assist. Coyne scored two minutes later with an assist from Becky Craigue. The Blue Hens quickly rebounded when Juli Byrd (Pocomoke, Md./HS) scored a minute and half later off a penalty corner with assists from Jodi Byrd (Pocomoke, Md./HS) and Cawley. Kelly Adams (Patterson, N.Y./Brewster HS) made four saves for the Blue Hens. Amy Agulay made eight saves and Mary Pearsall made four saves for the Wildcats. Delaware returns to action on Friday October 30 when they travel to Boston to face America East rival Boston University at 3 p.m.
