Blue Hens
Break All Sorts of Records
with 84-0 Triumph over West Chester
Sept. 23,
2000
NEWARK, DE -- Delaware's
high-octane attack moved to another level Saturday night as
the No. 7 Blue Hens rocked Division II West Chester, 84-0,
in front of a crowd of 21,152 at Delaware
Stadium.
The 84 points were the most scored by a
Delaware team in the modern era. The Blue Hens scored 93
points versus William & Mary in a game in 1915. It was
also the third straight home shutout for Delaware dating
back to last season.

The 4-0 start by Delaware is its best
since 1995. West Chester, which allowed the most points in
school history, dropped to 0-4.
The Blue Hens, who only ran three plays
resulting in negative yardage all night long, jumped up on
their first possession. Fullback James O'Neal broke
up the middle 16 yards for the first score of the night.
Scott Collins' PAT made it a 7-0 Delaware
lead.
The Blue Hens scored again on their next
possession when senior quarterback Matt Nagy (5 of 9
for 176 yards passing) hit Brett Veach for a 39-yard scoring
strike and the first of two touchdowns on the
night.
Just 93 seconds later, Mike
Furline recorded one of six Blue Hen interceptions and
raced 47 yards for a touchdown to make it 21-0.
Less than three minutes after that,
Bashawn Dixon recorded his second blocked punt of the
season. The ball scooted away from diving Delaware players,
through the endzone for a safety and a 23-0 Blue Hen
advantage.
Delaware tacked on 20 more points in the
second quarter for its largest halftime margin in school
history. A 33-yard touchdown run by Butter Pressey, a
nine-yard pass from Nagy to Veach and an Antawn
Jenkins four-yard scoring scamper gave the Blue Hens a
43-0 lead at intermission.

Delaware extended the lead to 71-0 through three quarters.
A Pressey to Nagy 68-yard scoring pass just 1:34 signaled
the end to both of their nights and a 50-0 lead. Pressey
finiished with eight carries for 94 yards rushing and the
one catch for 68 yards receiving.
Reserve running backs Butch
Patrick and Corey Howard scored their first
career rushing touchdowns and Patrick added another to close
out the quarter.
The play that ended the game best summed
up the night for the Golden Rams. After calling time out
with four seconds left at the Delaware 9, their deepest
penetration all night, West Chester quarterback John
Stauffer threw an interception and Mike Adams raced
97 yards down the left sideline as time expired for the
final touchdown.
It was that kind of night for the Golden
Rams, who have scored just six points in four games and have
now allowed 139 unanswered points the last three weeks. West
Chester is now 0-4 for the first time since 1978.
Delaware hosts Northeastern in an
Atlantic 10 match-up next Saturday at 1 p.m. West Chester
travels to Bloomsburg for a PSAC match-up next Saturday
night.
