NEWARK, DE
-- University of Delaware football head
coach K.C. Keeler has announced that
passing game coordinator and wide
receivers coach Bryan Bossard (far right)
has resigned to take the receivers coach
position at the University of Maryland.
In
addition to the departure of Bossard,
Keeler also announced that part-time
coaches Craig Cummings (near right) and
Dave Scott (bottom right) will not return
to the staff for the 2005 season.
Cummings, who served as a
part- time
defensive assistant the last three
seasons, has accepted a full-time
management position with Under Armour,
while Scott, who took over as tight ends
coach in a part-time role last season,
left to devote more time to his full-time
position as a math teacher at nearby
Glasgow High School.
Searches
are currently underway to replace all
three coaches, in addition to replacing
offensive line coach Kyle Flood, who left
to take the offensive line coach position
at Rutgers University in February. Isaac
Collins was hired as UD defensive backs
coach in February to replace Paul
Williams, who left to take an assistant
coaching position at Western Michigan
University.
Bossard,
37, who completed his ninth season as an
assistant coach at Delaware this past
fall, including his third as passing game
coordinator and wide receivers coach,
joins the University of Maryland staff
under fifth year head coach Ralph
Friedgen. The Terrapins posted a record of
5-6 this past season after going 10-3 and
defeating West Virginia in the Gator Bowl
in 2003.
Bossard
enjoyed outstanding success with the Blue
Hens the past three seasons, helping
Delaware capture the 2003 NCAA I-AA
national title with a 15-1 record and
advance to the NCAA I-AA quarterfinals in
2004. Delaware captured the Atlantic 10
Conference title each of the past two
seasons.
He played
a key role in Delaware's passing game
which thrived under All-American
quarterback and current Philadelphia Eagle
Andy Hall in 2002 and 2003 and under
junior Sonny Riccio this past season.
Delaware's top four receivers - seniors
David Boler, Justin Long, Brian Ingram,
and Joe Bleymaier - all return this fall
with Riccio to give the Blue Hens one of
the nation's most potent passing attacks.
Boler, Long, and Ingram have each recorded
over 100 receptions and 1,000 yards during
their careers at Delaware.
Bossard, a
native of Dover, DE, was a three-year
starting defensive back and an All-Yankee
Conference selection at Delaware and
earned his degree in agriculture business
in 1989. He began his coaching career as a
graduate assistant at Delaware and also
coached at Morehouse, West Chester,
Bucknell, Army, and Wyoming before
returning to Delaware for a second time
prior to the 2002 season. He led Delaware
to two NCAA I-AA tournament appearances
during his second tenure in 1994-98.
Cummings,
27, served as part-time defensive backs
assistant the last three seasons for
Delaware following one season as an
assistant coach at the U.S. Merchant
Marine Academy. He earned his degree from
Delaware in 2001 following a stellar
four-year career as a running back for the
Blue Hens. He served as co-captain as a
senior in 2000 and led the team to two
I-AA semifinal appearances. He rushed for
2,105 yards and scored 44 touchdowns while
starting all 50 games during his career.
He earned second team All-Atlantic 10
honors in 2000 and was named the
University of Delaware's Outstanding
Senior Male Athlete of the Year in
2000-01.
Scott, 46,
served two stints as a part-time assistant
at Delaware, coaching under Tubby Raymond
in 1998-2001 and leading UD to the I-AA
semifinals in 2000, and serving under
Keeler in 2004. A mathematics teacher at
Glasgow High School, he previously served
as head football coach at Glasgow for 10
seasons, leading the team to three state
tournament appearances and a 1989 state
title. He also has served as an assistant
coach at NCAA Division III Widener.
