NEWARK, DE
-- University of Delaware assistant head
football coach and offensive line coach
Kyle Flood has announced his resignation
to become offensive line coach at Rutgers
University.
Flood, who
also served as Delaware's recruiting
coordinator during his three-year tenure
with the Blue Hens, will join the staff of
Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano.
A national
search to replace Flood at Delaware is
currently underway.
"Kyle is
an outstanding addition to our staff. He
is a passionate teacher of offensive line
play," said Schiano, who led Rutgers to a
record of 4-7 in his fifth season this
past fall. "He is also an excellent
recruiter who is very familiar with our
recruiting areas. We look forward to
welcoming Kyle and his family to our
program, and to the Rutgers
community."
Flood
joined head coach K.C. Keeler's staff
prior to the 2002 season and helped lead
the Blue Hens to a three-year record of
30-11, including winning the NCAA I-AA
national title in 2003 and advancing to
the I-AA quarterfinals in 2004. Delaware
captured a share of the Atlantic 10
Conference title each of the past two
seasons.
During his
tenure, Delaware consistently ranked among
the top offensive units in the Atlantic 10
and ranked among the league leaders in
fewest sacks allowed. This past season,
senior tackle Trip DelCampo earned first
team All-Atlantic 10 and first team
All-East honors. During the 2003 national
championship season, the Blue Hens were
led by consensus All-American guard Jason
Nerys, who is currently on the practice
squad of the New York Jets.
Prior to
coming to Delaware, Flood served as
offensive line coach at Hofstra University
for five seasons and as offensive line
coach at Long Island University-C.W. Post
for two seasons. While coaching at C.W.
Post, he led the squad to the Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC)
Division II Eastern title in 1996. During
his tenure at Hofstra, the Pride made NCAA
I-AA tournament appearances four times.
A 1993
mathematics graduate of Iona College,
Flood, 34, was a four-year letterwinner
for the Gaels, serving as team captain in
1991 when he earned first team All-Liberty
Conference honors.
He began
his coaching career at St. Francis Prep
High School in Queens, NY in 1993, serving
two seasons as offensive line and
defensive line coach. He also served as a
mathematics teacher at St. Francis High
School for four years.
Flood and
his wife, Amy, have two children.
