NEWARK, DE -- Peter Johnson, former CEO of IMG’s Sports and Entertainment Division and University of Delaware alumnus, will hold a special lecture titled "The Changing Landscape in the Athlete Management and Sports Marketing Business" on Thursday, May 4, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at the University of Delaware. The lecture, which is co-sponsored by the Graduate and Executive Programs of the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, the Sport Management Program and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, will be held in 125 Lerner Hall on the corner of Orchard Road and Amstel Avenue.
In February of 2006, Johnson resigned from his position as CEO of IMG’s Sports and Entertainment Division. During his thirty years with the company, Johnson was involved in many of sports largest and most influential deals, events and precedents and worked with legendary sport agent and marketer Mark McCormack, founder of International Management Group (IMG). Johnson was named the "Most Influential Agent" in the United States in 2004 by a leading sports business trade publication, was named one of ADVERTISING AGE’s "Top Marketers" and was named one of Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal’s 50 Most Influential People in sports business for 2005.
Johnson began his career at IMG in 1976. During his tenure, he was responsible for the management and marketing of three NFL Most Valuable Players, two first selections in the NFL draft, a world #1 male tennis player, a world #1 female tennis player, a world #1 female golfer, a world heavyweight boxing champion and numerous NFL and NBA all-stars. Those clients included Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Rich Gannon, Tim Couch, Herschel Walker, Ivan Lendl, Martina Navratilova, Nancy Lopez, Evander Holyfield, and Shane Mosley.
A native of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Johnson is a 1972 graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in business administration and a 1975 graduate of the Wharton School of Business, where he earned his Masters Degree in business administration. Peter was a member of the University of Delaware’s small college National Championship football team in 1971 and played for the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions in 1972. He and his wife, Stephanie Tolleson, who headed up IMG’s Tennis Division for 25 years before also resigning in February, live in Moreland Hills, Ohio. Peter has three children.
