STANTON, DE -- The foursome of Oscar Mestre, Paul Brown, Fred Rullo, and Fred Rullo III was the big winner Thursday as the group took first place with the low score at the third annual Rich Gannon Blue Hen Golf Classic held at White Clay Creek Golf Club at Delaware Park.
The annual event, which drew a total of 27 foursomes, benefits the University of Delaware football program and his hosted by Gannon, the former Blue Hen All-American and National Football League Pro Bowl quarterback. He currently works as a color analyst for NFL broadcasts on CBS Sports.
Mestre, himself a former UD golf All-American and member of the UD Athletics Hall of Fame, anchored the winning foursome, which carded a winning score of 16-under par 56. Brown is a former Blue Hen football captain and Fred Rullo is a former UD football and baseball player, co-chair of the tournament committee, and a major contributor to Delaware athletics.
The foursome of Darrin Frampton, Max Krause, Chris Marshall, and Cabot Williams took second place with a score of 57.
Mestre also won the long drive contest on the third hole while Krause won the closest to the pin contest, driving to within seven-feet, 10-inches on the seventh poll. John Cooley, a former UD letterwinner and co-chair of the tournament committee, won the putting contest with a distance of four-feet, one-inch.
The tournament was title sponsored by MasterCard and presented by Embassy Suites Hotel.
