PHILADELPHIA -- University of Delaware senior Kheon Hendricks (at right), who anchored the offensive line at center for the Blue Hen football team the past two seasons, has been named to the 2008 The Sports Network All-American honorable mention team.

Hendricks, a 6-1, 300 lbs. graduate student from Pikesville, Md. (Woodlawn High School), earned All-American honors for the second straight year after being named to the honorable mention team in 2007 when he led the Blue Hens to the NCAA Division Football Championship Subdivision national title game.

One of 12 centers honored nationally on the four teams, Hendricks is the second Blue Hen football player to earn All-American honors this season. Junior safety Charles Graves was picked as a second team All-American by the Associated Press back in December but did not earn a spot on The Sports Network team.

Hendricks, who served as co-captain during the 2008 season, anchored the Blue Hen offensive line once again this fall. The Hens struggled to a 4-8 record but allowed just 1.67 sacks per game to rank sixth in the CAA. During the 2007, he led an offense that led the CAA in passing offense, scoring offense, and total offense behind a pair of All-Americans in quarterback Joe Flacco and running back Omar Cuff. Flacco is now the starting quarterback for the National Football League’s Baltimore Ravens.

Hendricks, only the third center in UD history to earn All-American honors, becomes only the second Blue Hen offensive lineman to earn All-American laurels two years in a row. Offensive tackle Garry Kuhlmann earned first team team All-American honors from the American Football Coaches Association in both 1980 and 1981.

The All-American teams were selected from a vote of numerous NCAA Division I FCS sports information directors and media members who cover those teams. A total of 192 players were honored on the first, second, third, and honorable mention teams.

Walter Payton Award winner Armanti Edwards and Buck Buchanan Award recipient Greg Peach highlighted the All-American teams. Edwards, the record-setting junior quarterback from Appalachian State, was joined on the first team by two ASU teammates, free safety Mark LeGree and middle linebacker Jacque Roman, matching Hampton for the most first-team picks. Peach, the senior defensive end who led FCS in sacks (18) and tackles for loss (22.5), was one of four Big Sky Conference performers chosen to the first team.

The Big Sky led all leagues with 17 selections to the first three teams, while the Colonial Athletic Association picked up 13 and the Southern Conference had 11 players chosen. Weber State didn't manage to get a first-team pick, but led overall with seven players on the first three teams.

Other CAA players honored on the four teams were:

1st team: Matthew McCracken (OG/Richmond); Scott Lemn (C/James Madison); Jovan Belcher (DE/Maine); Brett Arnold (P/Massachusetts)

2nd team: Rodney Landers (QB/James Madison); Jared Turcotte (FB/Maine); Scott Sicko (TE/New Hampshire); Lawrence Sidbury (DE/Richmond); Marcus Haywood (S/James Madison); Jeromy Miles (S/Massachusetts); Scotty McGee (PR/James Madison).

3rd team: Josh Vaughan (RB/Richmond); Greg Miller (DE/Villanova).
