-story.jpg) NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware football team remained at the No. 6 spot in both weekly national Top 25 polls this week following a 48-20 non-league victory over West Chester Saturday in the home opener at Delaware Stadium.
The Blue Hens (1-1), led by head coach K.C. Keeler (at right), will face a tough road test this week as they head south to take on Furman on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Paladin Stadium. Furman, a contender for the Southern Conference title, is 2-1 following a 42-21 road win at Colgate this past Saturday. Furman is ranked No. 24 in this week’s The Sports Network poll and No. 23 in the Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll.
The weekly polls are announced each Monday during the season. The Sports Network, the official poll used by Delaware for its national ranking, is made up of sports information directors and media members of FCS Division I schools.
The Colonial Athletic Association once again dominated the two polls, placing five teams in the top 10 and six in the Top 20 in both polls. In addition, CAA members Maine, Northeastern, and William & Mary also earned votes in the two polls but not enough to be ranked in the Top 25.
In The Sports Network poll, Richmond was at No. 2 and had one first place votes, James Madison was No. 5 and had two first place votes, Delaware was No. 6 and had one first place vote, Massachusetts as at No. 9, and New Hampshire was at No. 10 and had one first place vote. In addition, Villanova was ranked 19th.
In the FCS Coaches poll, Richmond was at No. 3, James Madison was at No. 5, Delaware came in at No. 6, Massachusetts was ranked ninth, and New Hampshire was 10th. In addition, Villanova was ranked 19th.
Appalachian State, the three-time defending national champion, remained at the No. 1 spot in both polls, earning 17 of 28 first place votes in the FCS Coaches poll and 96 of 113 first place votes in The Sports Network poll.
