NEWARK, Del. -- Jared Ambrose, who served the last two seasons on the University of Delaware football coaching staff as a graduate assistant, has been hired as the tight ends coach at Colonial Athletic Association rival Towson University.
Ambrose, 26, joins his older brother, Rob Ambrose, who was hired as the Tigers’ new head coach last month. The Blue Hens and Tigers will meet this coming Oct. 17 at Towson, Md.
“Jared has gotten tremendous amount of coaching experience at a very young age,” said Rob Ambrose. “We like the winning experience that he brings to the staff. In his two years at Delaware, he gained very valuable experience with a top program that has been historically successful.”
During Ambrose’s first season at Delaware, he helped guide the Blue Hens to an 11-4 record and a berth in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision title game under head coach K.C. Keeler.
A native of Middletown, Md., Ambrose earned his degree in athletic coaching and officiating at Shepherd (W.V.) College in May, 2007 and is pursuing a master's degree in exceptional children and youth special education at Delaware.
Ambrose attended Middletown (Md.) High School where he competed in football, basketball, and track and field and earned All-State honors twice and All-American notice as a defensive back in football. He suffered knee injuries during his senior year which limited his playing time in college.
He served as a student assistant with the Shepherd football staff for three seasons and was instrumental in helping the Rams become one of the top teams in NCAA Division II under head coach Monte Cater. Ambrose served as an offensive assistant and worked with the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends during his tenure.
Shepherd posted back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in 2005 (11-0) and 2006 (10-0) and made a pair of NCAA II playoff appearances.
